Take our quiz: What type of scientist are you?

"Professional registration has enhanced my credibility and recognition within the scientific community, strengthening my engagement with international partners and regulators."

Can you tell us a bit about your work and what you do?

I work at the intersection of Pharmaceutical Science & Nanotechnology, focusing on dendrimer-based therapeutics, nanodevices, and excipient technologies that enhance pharmaceutical delivery and expand global healthcare access. As Principal Scientist and Director of the National Dendrimer & Nanotechnology Center in Michigan, I lead translational research and innovation in nanomedicine, while also serving as Graduate Faculty & Adjunct Professor at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. In parallel, I contribute to international health policy as a Consultant with the World Health Organization and share scientific perspectives through Faculty Opinions in the UK. Beyond research and regulatory roles, I am committed to mentoring young scientists, pharmacists, and medical professionals, helping them translate scientific innovation into practical healthcare solutions.

Why did you decide to apply for Registered Science Technician/Registered Scientist/Chartered Scientist/Chartered Science Teacher?

I first applied for Registered Scientist, achieving RSci status in March 2021, and later advanced to Chartered Scientist, receiving CSci status in July 2023. For me, these designations represent more than professional recognition; they signify accountability to the highest standards of scientific practice. I believe science must not only advance knowledge but also uphold integrity, responsibility, and societal impact. Earning these titles affirms my commitment to global pharmaceutical development, regulatory science, and education, while also providing a platform to engage with peers, share best practices, and contribute to the continued growth of scientific excellence.

What impact has achieving professional registration had on your work or career?

Professional registration has enhanced my credibility and recognition within the scientific community, strengthening my engagement with international partners and regulators. It has also provided greater opportunities for collaboration and leadership, while reinforcing my commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists.

What did you learn through completing the application process?

Through the application process, I learned to reflect more deeply on my career achievements, recognize the impact of my work, and appreciate the value of aligning with professional standards of integrity, accountability, and mentorship.

What do you value most from being a member of your professional body?

I value being part of a respected scientific community that upholds high professional standards, fosters collaboration, and provides opportunities to exchange knowledge, mentor emerging scientists, and actively contribute to the advancement of science and technology.

What advice would you give to any other scientist like yourself aspiring to achieve professional registration?

Professional registration is more than a title-it’s a commitment to maintaining high standards throughout your career. Reflect on your work, focus on integrity, and embrace continuous learning. Use the recognition not only to advance yourself but also to give back by mentoring, inspiring others, and contributing to the wider scientific community.
