Why I decided to apply for professional registration

I wanted to demonstrate my commitment towards CPD, and to present an example for my learners emphasising the importance of hard work, determination and belief in one’s own ability.

I have recently come to the conclusion that the teaching profession is more of a ‘way of being’, rather than a career. Professional registration is an extension of this attitude, and helps me to believe in my own abilities, knowledge, and confidence in delivering a service to my learners, which meets the high standards, associated with the council.

Enhancing my career with Registered Scientist status

Registration encourages you to make connections with other professionals, whether they are engaged in your profession or not. Embracing these opportunities and networking with other professionals can provide you with a facilitative environment worthy of self-discovery and exploration; working to inspire and challenge you. Professional registration encourages and promotes new teaching approaches and methodologies, which enhances the quality of service you provide.

Being a Registered Scientist adds weight to my words, helping me to develop programmes, establish partnerships and take advantage of opportunities otherwise not open to me.

My journey in acquiring the RSci title generates a ‘role model’ status for my learners beginning their scientific careers; others can follow a similar educational pathway and carve out their careers in whatever scientific pathway they choose.

Being received and recognised by your peers gives you a sense of reassurance and confidence that you have reached a standard of professionalism and academia worthy of recognition. Being part of a growing scientific community inspires you to actively participate, promote and encourage others to do the same.
