Science Council Chief Executive Helen Gordon announces her plans to step down end of August 2023
Helen Gordon, Chief Executive of the Science Council, has announced her plans to leave the organisation at the end of August 2023 to pursue roles as a non-executive director and an executive coach.
Helen said “The time has come for me to move to the next chapter of my career and, though I will be very sad to leave the Science Council in the year ahead, I am enormously proud of what we have achieved together so far for Members, registrants and the wider science community. We still have much to do to deliver on our strategy but Members can be assured of my commitment to that over the coming months. I want to ensure there is a continuity of leadership, so I have shared my plans at this stage to give the board adequate time to recruit and to ensure a smooth transition.”
Adam Donnan, Chair of the board of trustees said “It will be with great sadness that we will be saying goodbye to Helen in 2023. Helen has done a wonderful job of leading the Science Council community and team and building strong relationships with member bodies. She will leave the Science Council in a very strong position, and I am sure you will join me in thanking Helen for her service and wishing her all the best for her future endeavours. She will be a great asset to any organisation to which she lends her considerable talents.
“The early signal of her intentions – for which I thank Helen – gives the board a long lead in time to review the role requirements, appoint a recruiter and undertake an extensive search for a successor. A timetable for this recruitment was agreed at the September board meeting and further details will be announced shortly.”
