Science Council welcomes new trustees
Following our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 14th June, we are pleased to announce the appointment of 3 new trustees; Dr Helen Pain, Philip Diamond and Dr Carl Senior.
Each bring with them years of experience working with a wide range of scientists, science employers, and professional bodies, which will be hugely valuable in helping the Science Council continue to set high professional standards for scientists.
“I have a strong commitment to helping develop the value and impact of professional science bodies for society. Raising the professional standards of scientists across all disciplines through professional registration, and by attracting the right calibre and range of people into the profession can inspire the public’s confidence in and engagement with science.”
Dr Helen Pain, Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry
“This is a really exciting time to be joining the Science Council Board. Science has never been more important to our economy, society and environment. Advancing professionalism in science through registration can make a vital contribution to society. I am looking forward to serving as a trustee and put to good use my many years’ experience of working with scientists, universities and the wider public.”
Philip Diamond, Associate Director, Policy, Performance and Planning of the Institute of Physics
“I am honoured to be elected to the Board. Science is constantly evolving and we now stand at a point at where professional recognition across the disciplines is a required standard. The Science Council plays a vital role in ensuring that professional standards in science are upheld, and as a trustee I will do my utmost to ensure that this continues to be the case”.
Dr Carl Senior, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching in the School of Life & Health Sciences at Aston University
At the AGM Dr Robert Parker and Edmund Nickless retired from the Board. We would like to sincerely thank them for their dedication and years’ of service to the Science Council.
