Igniting Careers – progress and next steps in technical science education

Igniting Careers event networking

The Igniting Careers event on 26 November 2024 was an opportunity to reflect on the progress of our Technical Pathways project, which aims to raise the profile and prestige of science-based apprenticeships and T Levels.

Daniel Sandford-Smith Igniting Careers event speakerWe were delighted to welcome speakers from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, which provides funding for the project, the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) and AstraZeneca. The speakers shared invaluable insights into current policy trends, the employer experience of apprenticeships, and the role of professional bodies in technical education.

The event was attended by a wide range of delegates, including representatives from scientific professional bodies, training providers and employers involved in technical education. We invited them to consider how employers, training providers and professional bodies can work together to support technical education.

Their thoughts were focused on improving communication between people involved in the delivery of apprenticeships and T Levels, coordinating marketing and promotional activities, and providing clearer incentives for the provision of industry placements. This feedback will help guide the Technical Pathways project over the next two years.
