What does an Applicant Support Mentor do?
Applicant Support Mentors support and mentor applicants to complete applications at the standard necessary to become Chartered or Registered Scientists, Science Technicians or Science Teachers. (An applicant support mentor may specialise in supporting development towards one or more of the Science Council’s professional registers.)
This might take the form of providing feedback to applicants on complete or nearly completed competence reports, or supporting those who need to improve their competence report and resubmit an application for registration (if their previously submitted application did not meet the threshold for success).
Alternatively, you could choose the get involved in facilitation or co-facilitation of workshops designed to encourage those who are interested in registration to apply, and those who are applying to complete their competence report effectively.
You will be provided with guidance to support applicants, enhanced by your personal experience of professional registration. Support from the Science Council will include an initial briefing and access to a range of useful resources to help you.

We are keen to hear from people of all ages, from all registers and from all science disciplines.
We want to ensure that our volunteer pool is as representative of the scientific workforce as possible. We would therefore particularly like to hear from women, ethnic minorities, younger people, disabled people and marginalised groups.
