These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our website located at www.sciencecouncil.org (“Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. 

1. Use of the Site 

The content on the Site is provided for general information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely. You must obtain professional or specialist advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of the content on the Site.  

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, restrict or inhibit anyone else’s use of the Site. You must not use the Site

  • To Transmit any data or upload any material that is malicious or technologically harmful. 
  • To attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, the server on which it is stored, or any server, computer or database connected to the Site. 
  • In any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect 
  • In any way that subjects or may subject us to any derogatory treatment, misrepresents us, brings us into disrepute, or causes us to incur liability to any third party 
  • To bully, intimidate, harass, harm, offend or discriminate against any user or employee. 
  • To solicit sign-in information or access an account belonging to anyone else 
  • To transmit or procure the sending of any unauthorised advertising or promotional materials, or any other form of solicitation (spam) 
  • To knowingly transmit any material that contains viruses or any other harmful program or computer code that is designed to adversely affect the operation of any computer software or hardware 
  • To promote sexually explicit material, violence or terrorism 
  • To share information about any individual without their express consent 
  • To store or use the personal data of other users of the Site. 
  • To knowingly use or reuse any material which does not comply with these Terms 
  • To further copy, distribute or otherwise use any of the materials from the Site without our written consent. 
  • To interfere with, damage or disrupt software or hardware used to operate the Site. 

2. Intellectual Property 

All content on the Site, including text, graphics, logos, images, and software, is the property of the Science Council or its licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright laws.  

You may browse, download or print out one copy of the material displayed on the Site for your personal, non-commercial, non-public use, but you must retain all copyright and other proprietary notices contained on these materials.  

You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.  

You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any content without our prior written consent. If you wish to link to or make any use of content on the Site, please contact [email protected].  

The trademark number UK00002640096 and UK00003245101 is a UK registered trademark of the Science Council. You are not permitted to use it without our written consent.  

3. Privacy 

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Notice, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the Site, you consent to the processing of your data as described in the Privacy Notice. 

4. Limitation of Liability 

We do not guarantee that the Site will be secure or free from bugs or viruses. You use the Site entirely at your own risk.   

We shall not be liable for any direct consequential or indirect consequential loss or damage of any nature whatsoever alleged to be caused by errors or omissions in the information contained on the Site. 

In no event shall we be liable for any general, special, direct, indirect, consequential or incidental damages, or any damages whatsoever, resulting from loss of use, data or profits, whether in an action of contract, negligence or other tortious action, arising out of or in connection with the use of information available from the Site. 

In no event shall we be liable for any damage to your computer equipment or software which may occur on account of your access to or use of the Site, or your downloading of materials, data, text, or images from the Site, whether caused by a virus, bug or otherwise.  

You must not misuse the Site by knowingly introducing viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other material that is malicious or technologically harmful. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, the server on which the Site are stored or any server, computer or database connected to the Site. You must not attack the Site via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of service attack. By breaching this provision, you would commit a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. We will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities, and we will co-operate with those authorities by disclosing your identity to them. In the event of such a breach, your right to use the Site will cease immediately.   

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Site.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites. These links are provided for your convenience only. We do not endorse or take responsibility for the content or practices of these websites. 

6. Governing Law 

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. 

7. Changes to These Terms 

Please ensure that you review these terms each time you use the Site as you will be deemed to have accepted any changes we make if you continue to use the Site after the update has been published.
