Celebration of Science & Sir Gareth Roberts Lecture 2024
The Science Council is holding its annual Celebration of Science event on 26 November 2024 (16:30-20:30) at the Geological Society of London. This year, the event combines the Science Council’s annual prizegiving celebrations with our biennial Sir Gareth Roberts Lecture.
The event will acknowledge the achievements of our fantastic science community and celebrate our registrants, volunteers and apprentices. It also provides an opportunity to connect with registrants from across the science disciplines, as well as colleagues from the professional body community, industry, academia and government.
The Sir Gareth Roberts Lecture is held in honour of the Science Council’s founding president. High profile speakers – such as Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser, Chief Executive, UKRI in 2022 – are invited to consider issues of policy and policy-making that impact scientists and their application of science.
This year’s speaker is Sir Paul Nurse, an English geneticist, former President of the Royal Society, and Chief Executive and Director of the Francis Crick Institute. He was awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, along with Leland Hartwell and Tim Hunt, for their discoveries of protein molecules that control the division of cells in the cell cycle.
The winners will be announced publicly on the night of the event. Their incredible stories and top tips will be shared on our website and socials in the following weeks. We will also record the awards ceremony and keynote speech and share it online. Keep an eye out and celebrate these incredible achievements with us!
