What is professional registration?

Professional registration with the Science Council provides independent recognition of your achievements and competence as professional scientists, science teachers and science technicians.

Many scientists and technicians work across different areas of science; for instance, combining computing with chiropody or physics with physiology, so our Science Council’s registers are for all practising scientists and technicians, independent of your discipline.

Registered professional scientists are recognised for their competence, ability and integrity and for serving the public interest. It is a voluntary means of demonstrating your professionalism across five key areas: application of your knowledge and understanding; taking personal responsibility; your interpersonal skills; adopting professional practice; and your professionalism.

Your registration demonstrates your commitment to employers that you keep your skills and knowledge up to date through continuing professional development (CPD) and that you are being accountable for your abilities and adherence to ethical standards. It’s a great way of boosting your career.

It also shows to my current employer and for my future career, my personal commitment to continuously developing and progressing my applied skills and abilities”
