The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) is a professional membership organisation and registered charity with over 150 years of history. It brings together a diverse global community across the materials, minerals and mining sectors.
Through 22 Technical Communities and networks, IOM3 connects disciplines, promotes knowledge sharing and provides opportunities for collaboration and professional development. Its events, training and mentoring support members at every stage of their journey.
IOM3 provides routes to professional registration and specialist recognition through the Science Council, Engineering Council and Society for the Environment. Members can achieve titles such as Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist and Chartered Environmentalist, with alternative and specialist pathways available. IOM3 also supports recognition through registers in ground engineering, minerals reporting and international accreditation. Guidance, mentoring and resources are included within the membership fee, helping members progress with confidence.
Membership also provides access to nearly 100 peer-reviewed journals, Materials World magazine, physical and digital library services, the OneMine database, grants, networking opportunities, discounts on events and training and more.
As the global voice for sustainability and circularity in the materials cycle, IOM3 influences policy and champions a low-carbon, resource-efficient future. Its independent, evidence-based work ensures members’ expertise is represented on issues from critical raw materials to workforce skills.
