Learning From The Best: IFST Early Career Food Safety Bursary Winners Meet Industry Leaders at GFSI Mentoring Event

What would you give to hear top career tips from industry leaders early in your career? IFST’s early-career bursary winners got the chance to do just that. The 2022 opportunity for early-career food safety leaders is outlined below.

Last year, IFST ran a competition for early-career food safety specialists which was generously supported by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The winners were awarded a ticket to IFST’s Spring Conference 2021, a year’s membership of IFST and an invitation to a GFSI-led career mentoring session.

At the Industry Leaders Event held on 25 January 2022, IFST’s bursary winners were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from food safety experts from across the food sector, all of whom have held or are currently in high level leadership roles at world class and blue chip businesses in the UK and overseas. The panellists were:

David Crean, Principal at STRIDE

Roy Kirby, Partner at FoodsafERM

Cliona Murphy, Vice President Quality Assurance at PepsiCo

Alec Kyriakides, Independent Food Safety Consultant

Janet Cox, Associate Director of Food Safety & Compliance at HelloFresh International

The event was chaired by Jon Poole, Chief Executive of IFST who was joined by:

Erica Sheward, Director Global Food Safety Initiative at The Consumer Goods Forum

Marie-Claude Quentin, Senior Technical Manager, GFSI at The Consumer Goods Forum

Following a rewarding experience with last year’s winners, IFST and GFSI will once again collaborate to provide this opportunity to a new cohort of 15 bright and committed people, working in roles where food safety is critical. They are looking for individuals with less than five years’ experience to tell the judges about their achievements and contributions in the area of food safety and how they have made a difference to their company, their customers and the food technical profession.

Details and criteria of how to enter the competition are on the IFST website (www.ifst.org/sc22-bursary) and entries should be returned by midnight 4 April 2022 to info@ifst.org.

What is the prize?

The fifteen winners of this competition will receive a one-year complimentary associate level membership with IFST plus free entry to the IFST Spring Conference 2022 which runs from 4-6 May 2022 online. In addition, IFST will organise, in conjunction with GFSI, a presentation and career mentoring session during 2022 (may be held as an online or hybrid event).
