Why I applied to become a Registered Scientist
In 2012, I relocated from the US to London, UK and began working as a Food Safety Specialist for one of the fastest growing UK companies.
I applied for the Registered Scientist distinction because I felt that my qualifications and experience had somehow become lost in from America English to British English across the Atlantic. The Registered Scientist distinction gives my company, my colleagues and fellow food scientists and nutritionists confidence that I am truly an expert and fully committed to food science and nutrition.
The value of CPD
As a Registered Scientist, I am required to annually confirm that I remain professionally active and competent to perform my role through completing CPD. Through the CPD, I am able to fully demonstrate my application of knowledge and commitment to continuous learning & development and improvement. CPD provides the discipline and structure to not only further develop my knowledge and skills but also to integrate it into my work.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending seminars and courses because I had the opportunity to meet other scientists and various professionals in other industries and discuss topics & issues and collaborate on projects.
I applied the knowledge and skills that I learned from the courses, seminars and discussions to develop and implement a sustainability vision and strategy program for my company.
What I’ve achieved as a Registered Scientist
Most recently, I received recognition from Mayor of London’s FoodSave programme for developing and implementing a program that diverts food waste to good causes each year.
After only 2 years, I was promoted from Food Safety Specialist to my current role as Head of Technical & Sustainability. As Head of Technical & Sustainability, I provide technical leadership and management of Food Safety, Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability.
